Wald adventure in Rostock: fascination with guided hikes!

Rostock, Deutschland - The sun shines over the Rostock Heide and the anticipation for the coming hiking season is noticeable. The Rostock city forestry office has also come up with a lot this year to lure nature lovers into the magical forests of the region. These annual forest hikes are not only an opportunity to enjoy the wonderful nature, but also to experience a lot of interesting facts. The Rostock town hall reports that the traditional start of the new season was celebrated with the Easter walk from April.

The first themed hikes are already taking place at the end of June, whereby forest fans can look forward to different routes. On June 21, 2025, the first bike hike with district forester Stefan Schlüter begins. It leads past the Köhlerhof, the discovery path, the concentration camp memorial and the impressive rhododendron park. The meeting point is at 10 a.m. at the Wiethagen city forestry office, the tour will take about two and a half hours.

A look into the future

The next dates for hikes have already been determined: On July 26th, district forester Sven Ahrens will be "around the Kattenleger Bruch". Here the participants learn more about the animal residents and forest management. On August 9, district forester Christoph Willert leads along the historic bog Canal and tells stories about "Treidler, hermits and tourists". A very special event will take place on August 30th: District forester Roger Kähler presents "History (s) im Wald" in the Schnatermann area. Meeting points are always at 10 a.m., the hikes will take up to two and a half hours.

But that's not all: September 13, 2025 is not only marked by the seasonal highlight, the traditional “Waldkulturnacht” in the Rostock Heide and Markgrafenheide, but also through the joint project from the Rostock & Warnemünde tourism center, the Rostock city forestry office and the forest and Köhlerhof Wiethagen.

For those who want to explore even more explorations beyond the forest hikes, the region has many other hiking tours. The routes invite you to discover the beautiful coastal landscape and the impressive nature reserves. A particularly recommended path leads from Warnemünder lighthouse to the oldest seaside resort in Germany, Heiligendamm. With a length of about 15 km, nature can be enjoyed to the fullest. On the way are the historic coastal forest and the ghost forest in Nienhagen, which is popular with hikers.

Another pleasure is the hike from Warnemünde to Schnatermann, which gives an insight into the fascinating flora and fauna of the nature reserves. This 12 km route also offers a wonderful view of the Warnow mouth. If you prefer it shorter, you can go to the planet path along the coast, which informs about the solar system with impressive information stations.
