An important change to school meals will be introduced in Rostock in the coming months. From September 2025, the city's approximately 16,250 students will be provided with school meals from Rhineland-Palatinate. This step has become necessary because the municipal commercial kitchen, which was decided on as a concept five years ago, is still not completed. The city had to re-tender the food supply to fill the empty spaces while the commercial kitchen was a long time coming. “Mittagsmatrosen GmbH”, a public company, is responsible for delivering school meals as part of the Europe-wide tender.
