Residents in Schwerin defend themselves against bus chaos on Haselholzstrasse!

The problems surrounding bus line 7 in Schwerin are gaining momentum. Exactly ten years ago, a compromise was reached: the buses should serve Haselholzstrasse and Hagenower Strasse equally. But reality has changed dramatically. Residents of Haselholzstrasse have been experiencing a massive increase in bus traffic for the past year, with all buses rolling unhindered through their street. The injured party, Jürgen Hildebrandt, has already submitted a petition in which he describes the situation as “unsustainable” and calls for the original 50-50 rule to be restored.

The residents' complaints are diverse: persistent vibrations and stress on the building structure cause problems for citizens, while noise and exhaust fumes significantly impair the quality of life. Hildebrandt draws attention to the urgent need to reduce traffic volumes and appeals to the city administration to address this problem. A return to the previous regulation is being demanded not only by him, but also by other residents.

City administration remains skeptical

However, the city administration, represented by Deputy Mayor Bernd Nottebaum (CDU), sees no reason to return to the split lines. The administration argues that the route via Haselholzstrasse represents an optimal connection for both residential development and the commercial center. A split route is seen as confusing and uncomfortable for passengers, which further supports the city's decision.

Surprisingly, several members of the main committee show understanding for the criticism of the burden on Haselholzstrasse. The managing director of bus line 7, Thomas Schlüter, explains that this line plays a central role in local transport and that the desire for a uniform route came from the city timetable conference. The topic of Haselholzstraße is expected to be put back on the agenda at the next timetable conference in January 2026.
