BSC Schwerin celebrates double victory – promotion to the badminton league!
On November 2nd, 2025, the BSC 95 Schwerin second team was under pressure in the Wilhelm Schröder sports hall. Not only were the opponents from Sassnitz and Dorf Mecklenburg waiting, but also the challenge of consolidating in the league. Captain Robert Haker had called the troops together, and they appeared with almost all their strength. Player-coach Michael Hewelt, Bert Zeiger and points guarantor Jeanne Zwar were ready to give everything to survive in the fight for the important table points.
Schwerin's strength was already evident in the first game against the relegated team from Rügen. They made a real impression with a clear 7:1. The only women's doubles, which was only decided in the deciding set, provided a thrill. Here Jeanne Zwar particularly impressed in the individual and set an example for her team. Their teammates Moostafa Lazqani and Philipp Ahlschläger, however, still had some room for improvement.
Pure excitement in the second game
The second encounter against Mecklenburger SV was anything but a walk in the park. It was a hard-fought match in which Schwerin won the women's doubles and the second men's doubles, but the first men's doubles by Hewelt/Zeiger only ended in extra time of the third set. A truly nerve-racking duel! There was also no luck in the mixed pairing and the second and third men's singles.
But Jeanne Zwar had a good day and once again secured an important point for her team. Michael Hewelt won the decisive men's singles in a thrilling match with 21:19. Ultimately, Schwerin was able to win this duel 5:3 and thus secured four important points.
An eye on the future
With such achievements, the team is well prepared for the challenges ahead. The next matchday will take place on January 18th and the anticipation for the next encounters is growing. However, there are other exciting developments in the world of badminton. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has reported suspected cases of manipulation at international level in recent months. The latest focus is on Ukrainian player Danylo Bosniuk, whose provisional suspension has reignited the discussion about fairness in sport. Such issues also concern German players who could perhaps benefit from such circumstances, such as runner-up Fabian Roth, who now has the chance to advance in the Olympic qualifications.
The sport of badminton is currently experiencing a boom not only in the men's league, but also in the women's leagues. It remains exciting to see how the situation will develop and which talents will make the leap into the upper leagues. And while the BSC 95 Schwerin goes its own way, the question also arises about the changes in the sporting landscape as a whole, especially with the focus on young talents and the next generations in badminton.
The coming months promise to be exciting on both a regional and international level. We can only hope that the teams continue to give their best and delight the fans with exciting games.
