Conchita Wurst inspires Schwerin: An evening full of emotions!
Today you will meet a dazzling personality in Schwerin's charming stables: Conchita Wurst, actually Tom Neuwirth, is a guest and brings a breath of fresh air into the city with her appearance. Dressed casually in a black baseball cap, a white blouse and khaki pants, she interacts friendly with the musicians of the Mecklenburg State Orchestra. This rehearsal is not just an ordinary event, but part of the “From Vienna with Love” program, which is dedicated to great emotions and powerful female voices. General music director Mark Rohde leads the session and has selected two emotional pieces for the evening: “Where Do I Begin” from the film “Love Story” and “All By Myself” by Eric Carmen, made famous by Céline Dion.
Conchita Wurst, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014 with her powerful hit “Rise Like a Phoenix,” has established herself in the music world as a symbol of diversity and acceptance. Her victory came just after the passage of Russia's anti-gay law and was perceived as an expression of tolerance and the fight for LGBT rights. Despite the threats she received before her performance, Conchita rose to the challenges and became a voice for many who advocate for equality. “The name ‘Conchita Wurst’ stands for gender diversity,” explains Neuwirth, describing himself as a “bird of paradise” among classical musicians.
An impressive career
As Thomas Neuwirth, born on November 6, 1988 in Gmunden, he began his musical journey in 2007 in the casting show “Starmania”. After a few years as part of the boy band “Now Anders!” he began to develop the travesty figure Conchita. Her first appearance was in 2011, and soon after she made headlines at the Eurovision prelims. Conchita's victory in 2014 was not only the first for Austria since 1966, but also the first in which no one supported the artist with dancers or choirs. This impressive solo represented a milestone.
Conchita has since attended many Pride events and raised her voice for the LGBT community. Their performances are not just musical performances, but also messages of hope and acceptance. Among other things, she spoke in the European Parliament about discrimination and campaigned for human rights. Her 2018 album with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and her continuous touring since 2011 prove that she is firmly anchored in the international spotlight.
A look into the future
With every performance, Conchita also brings her personal story, which is shaped by the desire for a world without discrimination. Their commitment extends far beyond music and shows how powerful art can be in bringing about social change. “It’s about breaking down gender boundaries and explaining the meaning of interaction,” says Neuwirth. Through her art and her courage, Conchita Wurst has had a lasting influence not only on the music world, but also on many people's attitudes towards gender and sexuality.
At a time when challenges for LGBT people continue, Conchita remains a ray of hope and a voice of hope. Looking forward to her future artistic career, it becomes clear that Conchita Wurst's music is much more than just entertainment - it is a call for acceptance and love.
As the Baltic Sea newspaper says, this event will certainly be an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
