FC Mecklenburg Schwerin with double defeat: Coach remains optimistic!
In preparation for the 2025/26 season, FC Mecklenburg Schwerin showed that test matches are more than just another result: they are the stage on which team spirit and fitness can develop. Despite the significant defeats against Niendorfer TSV (0:4) and TSV Bardowick (0:3), coach André Sevecke remains optimistic.
The first game on July 15th against the upper division team Niendorfer TSV revealed both the team's strengths and weaknesses. In the first half, the FCM were present in a playful manner and had a few phases of possession, but a goal conceded after a corner threw the team off track. Sevecke criticized the defensive organization, especially after massive changes in the second half that disrupted the flow of the game. Nevertheless, he emphasized that the experiences from these encounters were valuable for the further development of the team and that the training week had a positive influence on athletic fitness.
Test matches: An important part of preparation
Test matches are not only important for professional teams, but also for amateur preparation. Training Service emphasizes that these games serve to improve training content and offer an excellent opportunity to give players match practice. Changing players allows for additional forms of training and the chance to strengthen the collective. The focus here is not on results orientation, but rather on recognizing strengths and weaknesses. When selecting opponents, the FCM follows a strategy in order to set specific training tactical priorities.
In addition to the games already played, the FCM has further test games on the program in the coming weeks. On Friday, July 18th, the team is expecting FSV Veritas Wittenberge from the West/Brandenburg regional class, which offers another opportunity to put into practice what they have learned during the training week.
Personnel changes
The test match phase also comes at a time of upheaval in the FCM squad. With the departures of Til Breitkreutz (to FC Schönberg), Soshi Kosuga (to an unknown club), Sebastian Neugebauer (to MSV Pampow) and Jakob Ewert (to FC Goldenstädt), the players have to regroup. On the other hand, there are also some new additions, including Lucas Holz (TSG Gadebusch) and several talents from our own ranks.
With a broader squad and the experience gained, the FCM is well positioned to further refine its style of play in the remaining test matches and to start the new season optimally. Bundesliga shows that many teams are currently overcoming similar challenges in order to be able to assert themselves in the league.
The next few days will show how FC Mecklenburg Schwerin continues to develop and what lessons can be learned from the test games.
