On October 3rd, the 35th Day of German Unity is celebrated in Germany and numerous events ensure a colorful celebration throughout the country. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, shops in tourist regions are allowed to open for the first time on today's holiday, which gives the festivities an additional incentive. From the coast to the inland, there is something to experience for every age group.
A diverse program awaits us in Binz on Rügen. From 3 p.m. there will be a celebration on the beach below the spa square “Abbaden”, followed by “Binz dances” from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. with DJ Boogie. Things will also be musical in Sagard: there will be an open singing in front of the church at 6 p.m. For sports enthusiasts, the beach polo championship in Sellin is on the program, which starts at 1 p.m. and features over 70 polo horses.
Family friendly activities
A special highlight for the little ones is the kite festival in Göhren, which starts at 11 a.m. Families get their money's worth at the autumn market in Baabe, where there is a colorful program from 1 p.m. In Lietzow there is also a celebration with music in the party tent at the autumn fire from 6 p.m. There will also be festivities in other places such as Rostock, where a guided tour to the sites of the peaceful revolution will take place from 11 a.m.
A family afternoon begins at 11 a.m. in the Rhododendron Park in Graal-Müritz, and there is a North German weightlifting championship in Stralsund. In Schwerin there will be an official ceremony in the town hall, supplemented by a panel discussion. Each of these events shows how lively and diverse the Day of German Unity is celebrated everywhere in the country.
Cultural highlights
A very special event will take place in Wolgast, where at 3 p.m. there will be a festival concert by the 1st Pomeranian Wind Orchestra and the People's Solidarity Senior Choir under the motto “Democracy in Melody”. The concert has already become a tradition and attracts more than 400 citizens who can look forward to a varied program of classical and modern brass music. A community festival is being celebrated in Tribsees, which begins at 10 a.m. and offers space for an art competition entitled “I think of Germany…”.
In addition, events will continue in many places on Friday and Saturday, October 4th and 5th, with events such as the State Harvest Festival in Wismar and the Culture Night in Bad Doberan. A Fleesensee run also takes place in Göhren-Lebbin. The festival in Saarbrücken, which runs from October 2nd to 4th, offers a variety of art events, special activities for children and a culinary mile.
