Autumn cleaning at the zoo: Make the zoo winter-proof together!
A very special day of action is coming up at Schwerin Zoo: On November 15th, those responsible and employees are inviting all animal lovers and nature enthusiasts to work together. Leaves are being raked diligently, paths are being cleaned and the animal facilities are being made winter-proof. This initiative aims to not only care for nature but also to strengthen a sense of community. Nordkurier reports on the details.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., both adults and children aged 10 and over (accompanied by an adult) are welcome to do their part in preparing for the cold season. Whether alone, with friends or family, everyone can take part. The equipment is provided, but you are welcome to bring your own garden tools such as rakes and shovels. Please don’t forget: work gloves are a must!
Insights and rewards
Participants can expect exciting insights into the animal facilities while they collect, rake and load a hell of a lot of leaves. The meeting point is at 10 a.m. at the main entrance to the zoo. In groups of six to eight people, participants are led by a zoo employee, so no one is on their own. As a thank you for your help, the zoo is offering free entry on this day. There is also a delicious warm soup and hot drinks to warm you up after work.
Registration for the autumn cleaning is required by November 12, 2025 by email to the zoo administration. It is recommended to act quickly, because anyone who would like to take advantage of the opportunity to make an active contribution to the well-being of animals and nature should secure a place soon.
For Schwerin Zoo, this event is not only an important measure for the zoo itself, but also an invitation to the community to come together and do something good. So who wants to get involved on November 15th? It's a great opportunity to make a difference while enjoying the fresh air and nature!
