Schwerin, Deutschland - Joanna Lewicka, a seasoned director with a wide -ranging horizon of experience, will take over the management of the drama division at the Mecklenburg State Theater Schwerin from the 2026/2027 season. The Silesian -born has dealt intensively with the theater in the past two decades. After studying the director at the University of Music and Performing Art in Frankfurt/Main, she began to do theater in Germany and Poland. Her stations include renowned houses such as the Zurich Schauspielhaus and numerous theaters in Lublin, Rostock and Wiesbaden. But Lewicka is not only active in the theater, but is also intensively involved in social projects. Since 2015 she has been working regularly with the Khmer Community Development in Cambodia, where she uses methods of the Forum Theater from Augusto Boal to promote conflict management and reconciliation. Her focus is on the support of ethnic minorities and the creation of professional, socially committed theater productions.
In addition to her directorial activity, she has been taught theater studies and director in global context since 2020 at the State University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart. She also worked as a guest lecturer at the Marie-Curie University in Lublin from 2016 to 2020, where she taught students in the classic pieces "Die Möwe" by Chekhow and "The Troer" by Euripides.
