Oktoberfest in Schwerin: celebrations, music and Bavarian tradition!

Finally it's that time again! From September 26th to 28th, 2025, Schwerin will celebrate its traditional Oktoberfest in the Old Garden in front of the State Museum. Under a large marquee that can accommodate up to 1,500 guests, visitors can expect a colorful mix of brass music, party atmosphere and Bavarian delicacies. The organizers have put together an unbeatable program that promises a feast for all the senses for both locals and guests from near and far. The Northern Courier reports on the diverse program items and highlights that enable a direct experience of the Bavarian lifestyle.

How does the festival begin? Things really get going on Friday, September 26th! At 5 p.m. the traditional draft beer is tapped, accompanied by musical performances by the bands “Banzkower”, “Vier + Ich” and “Bauer Korl”. Admission is free during the day, while after 5 p.m. a ticket for 15 euros is required at the door. Attention bargain hunters: If you decide on a combination ticket for both days, you only pay 20 euros. There is also a special musical treat: At 6 p.m. there will be a concert with Uwe Murek (saxophone) and Benjamin Jäger (organ) in the St. Peter's Church. Admission is free, but donations are warmly welcome. At 8 p.m. we'll head to the sports and congress hall, where ventriloquist Sascha Grammel will entertain the spectators.

A complete festival weekend

Saturday, September 27th, will be all about unbridled celebration. The festival tent is open all day, entry from 5 p.m. costs 15 euros. The highlight of the evening is the 50th anniversary of the cult band Engerling, which will be playing in the Speicher. The good mood guarantee is certainly activated here!

On Sunday, September 28th, the day begins with a hearty breakfast and brass music in the festival tent, followed by a performance by “Bauer Korl”. There is a wide range of activities for families in the Mueß open-air museum, which presents “Sünndags in de Koek” with historical recipes from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will also be a “Bridge Time” service at 11:30 a.m. in the Schelfkirche. If you haven't had enough, you can browse for bargains at the flea market in the Seehotel Frankenhorst from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or attend the lecture “Wahnfried dances the waltz” at the Ataraxia music and art school, which starts at 4 p.m. - tickets for this cost 13 euros.

Attractions around the festival

But the Oktoberfest in Schwerin doesn't just offer music and cuisine. Around the festival tent, visitors can expect more fun at the fair with carousels, stalls and children's bungee jumping. A special highlight is the Oktoberfest Königsschiessen, where amateur shooters can show off their skills in classes such as pistol, rifle and bow, while a light-point rifle is available for children aged 12 and over. With fair prices and free entry for visitors wearing traditional costumes, the celebration is a real bargain.

By the way, admission varies depending on the time: from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. it only costs 2 euros, after 7 p.m. it costs 5 euros. Each visitor also receives 3 vouchers and discount cards for Schwerin companies. Table reservations can be made by phone or in the potato house - a good tip for securing the best seat!

Oktoberfest has also made a name for itself outside of Munich. How Statista shows, the Oktoberfest in Munich is one of the largest and best-known folk festivals in the world with 7.2 million visitors annually, where visitors traditionally appear in lederhosen and dirndls. The Schwerin Oktoberfest brings this flair to the city and ensures that celebrating together is not neglected - an opportunity to feast, dance and simply have fun.
