After a long dry spell, things are looking up again! The popular DB store in Schwerin main station reopened its doors on October 31st after being closed for five months. In order to improve the operational conditions, the ceiling was completely renovated. The construction work was initiated by Deutsche Bahn and represented a painful loss for many customers, reports nordkurier.de.
Metin Devran, who has run the kiosk since 2017, is excited about the reopening, but has struggled with ongoing rental costs during the closure. His regular customers couldn't wait to stop by again. The loyal guests in particular kept asking about the new opening date during the construction period. “I hope that customers will come back after the reopening,” says Devran optimistically.
Renovation and assortment
Although the renovation brought a major change, the range in the DB store remains unchanged: at the top of the list are baked goods, bockwurst, hot dogs and delicious coffee starting at one euro. The kiosk has around 1,000 customers every day and employs six people - including Marta, the longest-serving employee, who has been there since 2001 and is a familiar face for many regular guests.
The next steps also include further renovations to modernize the kiosk's design. Devran believes that a fresh look will increase the appeal of his offering without raising prices. After all, not only did the high rental costs put pressure on the opening plans, but the patience of customers was also tested until the reopening.
A look at the future
Upcoming renovations and a fresh design could give the DB store new impetus. Customers have sorely missed the kiosk during the closure period and a good hand in customer loyalty will be needed to confirm its popularity.
At a time when local businesses are often under pressure, the reopening of the DB store is an example of how important such contact points are for people's everyday lives.
