Schwerin cyclists collect donations for children's hospice with a 24-hour tour
On June 12, 2025, four brave cyclists from Schwerin went on a special trip. This 24-hour extremrad tour was not only a sporty undertaking, but also a feat for a good cause. The route led the cyclists about 500 kilometers through the picturesque landscape of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. From Wismar to Rostock, Stralsund and Greifswald to Neubrandenburg, the path stretched before going back to Schwerin. The drivers - Daniel Rackwitz, Michael Winterstein, Dennis and Michael Kruse - started at 10 a.m. on the south bank of the Pfaffente pond and returned to the starting point around 9 a.m. on Friday morning. Michael Kruse, who organized the benefit tour for the sixth time, has launched a tradition that always comes up with great response.
The donation tour was to collect urgently needed funds for the outpatient children's hospice service "Fridolin". This service offers support for life -shortening children, adolescents and young adults as well as their families. The first donation checks were also handed over in the campaign tent at the Pfaffenteich on site, and the Hospizverein Schwerin was present with around 100 qualified volunteers. The commitment of these helpers as well as the various offers - such as animal -assisted and experience educational activities as well as special mourning groups - make a valuable contribution. In particular, the child -friendly “last aid courses”, which have been offered since 2024, are aimed at children between the ages of 8 and 16 in order to impart basic topics related to the end of life.
support for affected families
The diagnosis of a life -shortening disease can lead to an enormous burden for affected families. Therefore, the offers of children's hospice work offer support and support in this difficult time. The goal is clear: to maintain the quality of life and joie de vivre of the affected children and to stabilize the families even during the mourning phase. The outpatient children's and youth hospice work is directed by full-time staff who take care of the individual needs of families. Volunteers are also available to offer practical support and conversations and to find paths through this difficult time.
The donations collected during the tour directly benefit the outpatient children's hospice services in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Under the motto "strong for sick children", the campaign enables accompanying and relief offers to be maintained, which are indispensable for many families. a comprehensive commitment
The Hospizverein Schwerin, who runs the service, was founded 29 years ago and has steadily developed since then. All offers are free of charge for families and are not counted towards other social and support services. This ensures that individual and needs -based support is always guaranteed. The combination of individual accompaniment for sick children and group offers for siblings has proven to be particularly valuable to create a supportive environment.
For everyone who wants to find out more about the exciting and challenging world of children's hospice work or even want to become active themselves, the association will offer a free qualification course for interested parties from October 2025. This initiative invites you to deeper into the matter and maybe make a valuable contribution yourself.
In times when life often unexpectedly takes its turns, it is all the more important to support each other. The donation tour, the use of the helpers and the valuable offers of the children's hospice service impressively show how community and solidarity can also create bright spots even in difficult times.
