Schwerin rowing youth triumphs: Federal Championships in Munich!
An exciting day for the Schwerin rowing youth! On July 15, 2025, the young athletes from Schwerin were able to record several successes at the 56th national competition in Munich-Oberschleißheim. With 1,033 participants from all over Germany, the event was a real highlight for the young athletes, who competed in three disciplines: long distance, general sports competition and federal regatta. The national competition is considered the highest qualification level in the children's area of the German Rowing Association, which gives the participants' successes additional importance. Rudern.de reports on the outstanding performances of the Schwerin team.
The stars of the competition were certainly the mixed double sculls in the 13/14 age group, consisting of Elisabeth Krüger, Lion Große, Paula Schöpp, Fynn Raben and helmsman Daniil Velychko. They crowned their achievement with the national victory and can look forward to a course in Ratzeburg. The two defending champions Kamil Bekirov and Matti Hodea also showed that they are still at the top and drew attention with their victory in the boys' double sculls. Both were also invited to a course run by the German Rowing Youth.
Further successes for Schwerin athletes
But it wasn't just the first places that were cause for celebration. Ben Leipold and Henry Schmidt secured victory in the long distance in the boys' double sculls (AK 12/13) and ended up in second place in the overall ranking. Ylvi Hochleutner was in top form in the girls' single sculls (AK 14) and took third place in the long distance, while she still came 15th in the overall ranking. Ole Janke and Lian Peppler also did well in the lightweight boys' double scull (AK 12/13), taking second place in the long distance and third place in the national regatta.
Brida Möller and Fiona Motullo were also able to impress in the girls' double sculls (AK 13/14). They were the second fastest boat in their age group in the long distance and achieved an excellent fourth place overall. The Schwerin team also gave their best in the general sports competition, and the relay team with Fiona, Elisabeth, Fynn and Henry won in their division.
Weather and competition conditions
Despite the many successes, there were also challenges: due to the heat, a large-scale final awards ceremony was not held, and the opening ceremony was canceled due to a thunderstorm. Coach Thomas Schulz was nevertheless optimistic about the performance of his protégés and their potential for the coming competitions. The Schwerin rowing youth team has firmly decided to qualify for the 57th national competition in Münster.
Rowing is not only traditional in Germany, but also a sport with a history and a future.
