Walking concerts in the castle: Experience cultural enjoyment in Schwerin!
A touch of culture permeates Schwerin's castle: under the fascinating title “Changing Concerts in Schwerin Castle”, this new cultural event shines as an absolute treat for music lovers. Guests can not only admire the magnificent building, but also look forward to mini-concerts by professional musicians that take place in various areas of the castle. Whether in the plenary hall, in the chapel or in the inner courtyard – the musical diversity ensures an impressive experience. And if you get hungry, the state parliament lounge provides drinks and snacks to keep you refreshed during the breaks, as the Ostsee-Zeitung reports.
But Schwerin doesn't just have a lot to offer musically. The first substantive referendum in the city's history will take place on January 25, 2026. This is a vote on the buyback of the district park with playground in Lankow. This decision is based on a successful citizens' initiative, which all city representatives unanimously rated as positive. However, there was some discussion about the date, as they originally wanted to combine the referendum with the mayoral election. Ultimately, the CDU's proposal to hold the decision as an individual meeting prevailed. This marks a milestone in citizen participation on January 25th, as Schwerin.news reports.
Celebrations and events in Schwerin
The city is also buzzing with economic initiatives. The business ball will take place at Basthorst Castle next Saturday. As part of this festive event, the “Entrepreneur of the Year” prize, worth 1,000 euros, will be awarded. The nominees are Oliver Stenzel, Marco Scheel and Ralph Pusch. It is already the 33rd awarding of this coveted prize, which should provide a breath of fresh air, at least for the evening.
But even in the dark season there is tragic news from Schwerin. A fatal accident in the Lankow district shocked the community after a 70-year-old was charged with negligent homicide and endangering road traffic. The incident, which occurred in February 2024, now has legal consequences. A date for the hearing before the district court has not yet been set.
Cultural and political commitment
And the political waves are also expressed in the possible appointment of Silvio Witt as Ombudsman for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. He was proposed by both the SPD and the Left and could replace Christian Frenzel, who has moved to the Interior Ministry. This decision will be voted on in the state parliament on Wednesday and could give Witt, who was honored for his commitment to civil courage, a significant role in state politics.
The city's cultural diversity is also reflected in the community festival, which attracted more than 15,000 visitors last year. From October 2nd to 4th, numerous events took place throughout the city - from concerts to exhibitions to culinary delicacies, there was something for every taste. In the Old Garden alone, where Roland Kaiser and numerous other artists performed, the atmosphere was particularly exuberant.
Schwerin has a lot to offer – be it culturally, economically or politically. The city is lively and has something for everyone, whether you are a music lover, someone interested in technology or just a pleasure seeker.
