Wismar celebrates the success of the chair parade: 300 pieces for a good cause!
On August 10, 2025, the Wismar Chair Parade was a lively event that made the old town bloom. Organized by the art association “Work Creatively and Organize Social Affairs” (KaSo), the event took place for the fourteenth time. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., an impressive 300 restored chairs lined ABC Street, ready for new owners who wanted to make a statement about sustainability and social inclusion.
Overall, the KaSo association was able to generate income of around 5,800 euros, less than the 8,200 euros in the previous year. According to Karin Auerbach, a representative of the association, this was mainly due to the fact that buyers had less money available this year. Nevertheless, the event shows how important creative projects are in offering people from socially marginalized groups a perspective.
Art and integration in focus
A highlight of the chair parade is the enormous effort that goes into refurbishing the furniture. Over the course of the year, the members of the KaSo association restored, painted and reupholstered 480 chairs. This process not only offers those involved structure in their everyday lives, but also real social participation. Here, art is viewed not only as a means of expression, but also as a tool to promote togetherness.
It wasn't just chairs that were on offer this year. Visitors also had the opportunity to purchase prepared tables, cupboards and small furniture. Such offers promote local handicrafts and strengthen the community in Wismar, as emphasized by the Wirth Foundation, which supports similar initiatives.
A win for the community
Despite a decline in revenue compared to the previous year, spirits at the festival grounds were high. District Administrator Schomann recalled how important it is to continue to invest in youth and social projects, especially at a time when savings are required. For the KaSo Association, the proceeds are not only financial help, but also a sign of recognition for the hard work of the participants.
The Wismar Chair Parade has established itself not only as a cultural event, but also as a platform for those who often have fewer opportunities in the primary labor market. The success of the event shows that commitment to social initiatives is of immense value - both for the city of Wismar and for the district as a whole. The Chair Parade will continue to play an important role in promoting art, creativity and social integration.
The numerous visitors made this event a real celebration that strengthens social cohesion and promotes cultural participation. The Wismar Chair Parade proves once again how the creative use of art and furniture not only pleases the eye, but also opens hearts.
For everyone who couldn't take part in today's chair parade: The remaining chairs and furniture will be offered in the KaSo association in the coming weeks. It's worth stopping by and taking a piece of Wismar creativity home with you!
