Train chaos in November: Commuters in Schleswig-Holstein have to reschedule!

It will be uncomfortable for commuters in Schleswig-Holstein: in November 2025 there will be numerous train cancellations, rail replacement services and timetable changes. These measures are necessary because extensive construction work has to be carried out to replace tracks, switches and overhead lines. The affected travelers have to be prepared for delays and diversions, especially at night. There will be exceptional restrictions on several key routes in the coming weeks.

How NDR reported, Deutsche Bahn connections are particularly affected. Travelers on the route from Lübeck via Bad Kleinen to Rostock must expect cancellations on the night of November 5th to 6th between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. Replacement transport is set up here using buses. There will also be cancellations and no stops from October 24th to November 10th on other routes, such as between Hamburg Hbf and Lübeck or Bad Oldesloe. Nighttime services at 9pm and later are severely affected.

And Nordbahn and Erixx don't get away unscathed either. Passengers from Büsum to Heide and Neumünster must be prepared for cancellations on November 2nd and 3rd and between November 9th and 17th; Replacement bus services also apply here. Outages are expected for the Kiel – Schleswig – Husum route until November 30th, and the connection between Kiel and Lübeck will also be restricted until the work is completed.

  • Deutsche Bahn:
    • Lübeck – Bad Kleinen – Schwerin – Rostock (RE1/RE2): Ausfälle in der Nacht vom 5. auf 6. November
    • Hamburg Hbf – Lübeck (RE8/RE80): Ausfälle bis 10. November, insbesondere abends
  • Nordbahn:
    • Büsum – Heide – Neumünster (RB63): Ausfälle entre 2. und 3. November und vom 9. bis 17. November
    • Kiel – Schleibrücke (RE72/RB73): Ausfälle vom 31. Oktober bis 4. November
  • Erixx:
    • Kiel – Lübeck – Lüneburg (RE83): Einschränkungen bis 30. April 2026

As if there weren't enough changes already, many commuters have now found new ways to network and exchange information about their trips. Platforms like Facebook offer an ideal opportunity for this. Users can receive news and tips about the best alternatives through groups and markets and thus support each other.

In view of this inconvenience, travelers are advised to find out in advance about the current timetables of the respective railway companies. The relevant information is available on the railway websites and it is advisable to take a look at it from time to time.

With the extensive construction work, Deutsche Bahn hopes to sustainably improve the infrastructure. Wouldn't it still be easier to just keep the tracks running if you have to deal with construction sites every year anyway? A good knack is required to offer commuters a smooth timetable and at the same time successfully complete the necessary work. Stay tuned and keep your eyes open for possible changes to the timetables - it could be worth it.
