Exciting crime fiction readings: collect money for the Sailors' Church in Prerow!
In an exciting cultural project, committed members of the Prerow Sailors' Church Support Association are committed to preserving this historic building in the Vorpommern-Rügen district. Today, October 1, 2025, there will be a reading of the fictional business crime novel “The Last Memo,” written by Andreas Krebs and Christian Velmer. [NDR] reports that the event is not only intended to entertain, but also to raise money for the restoration of the approximately 300-year-old building.
The crime thriller, which focuses on murder and illegal chemical weapons exports, offers a deep insight into power games and corruption within a company. The story revolves around mysterious circumstances under which an employee of the RheinHansa company dies, and the investigations by Chief Detective Claudia Janssen and Head of Security Rolf Lindner. As the two protagonists try to unravel the depths of the corporate world, they are confronted with bizarre characters and dramatic twists brought about by the titular last memo. [On to MV] provided the plot details.
Dedicated authors with experience
Andreas Krebs and Christian Velmer not only bring their literary skills to this project, but also their many years of experience in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. Krebs, a former manager at Bayer, and Velmer, who worked in international healthcare management for over 35 years, have a good knack for exciting stories. Krebs is also chairman of Girassol e.V., an association that supports disadvantaged children in Brazil. [Off to MV] has put together interesting background information about the authors.
The book is available both as a print edition for 21.99 euros and as an eBook for 9.99 euros and can be ordered online, for example via Amazon. The readings, which also take place in Zingst, Wieck and Barth, are free of charge, but the organizers are asking for donations to support the Prerow Seaman's Church.
A program with heart
Many people accepted the invitation to the reading because everyone can secure their place by making a free reservation. This initiative demonstrates not only the cultural commitment in the region, but also the importance attached to the preservation of the Sailors' Church, which is an important part of the area's cultural heritage. A restored church is not only a beautiful sight, but also a piece of local awareness.
In times like these, when many are facing challenges, it is encouraging to see local initiatives and people's passion coming together to do something good. The reading series could be a real highlight of the region! For more information about the events and the authors as well as the fundraising campaign, check out our partner [NDR].
