AVG sells to VVG: This is how public transport in Anklam is being redesigned!
The Anklamer Verkehrsgesellschaft (AVG) is facing a significant change: It is selling all of its shares for six million euros to the district's own transport company Vorpommern-Greifswald (VVG). This decision was made in the district council on Monday and sealed by the notary a day later nordkurier.de communicates.
AVG becomes a subsidiary of VVG and initially remains as an independent company. Fortunately, there are no changes on the part of the employees, not even with regard to pension provision. An important issue involving the takeover of employees and posing a financial risk to the district was successfully resolved in the past few weeks.
Positive outlook despite challenges
The negotiations were described as quick and efficient. The original purchase price of 12.5 million euros was reduced to six million euros after an audit, but without the shareholders becoming unduly enriched personally. Despite the financial difficulties that AVG is currently struggling with, the company is perceived as healthy and efficient. The challenges are triggered by political requirements and an acute liquidity shortage, which has been exacerbated by an investment backlog in the last two years.
However, Dirk Zabel from VVG sees potential in the takeover. He expects synergies that could strengthen not only the efficiency but also the quality of the public transport network in the region. From January 1, 2026, VVG will take over the concession area on Usedom, which could lead to new bus connections.
Some important changes are also coming: In 2026, AVG will no longer offer trips, but bus rentals will continue. Christof Rudolf, the managing director of AVG, thanked the employees for their tireless efforts during this uncertain time.
The look into the future
Passengers are also likely to benefit from the upcoming changes, as the planned synergies could not only expand the bus network, but also improve it. The takeover by VVG could bring the necessary breath of fresh air to compensate for the investment deficit of recent years.
