Energy-efficient renovation of the school in Niepars: great progress!

On September 19, 2025, the energy-saving renovation of the regional school in Niepars in the Vorpommern-Rügen district was celebrated with great joy. This measure is not only an important step towards sustainability, but also a benefit for the school itself. The first construction phase has already been completed and brings with it far-reaching improvements. Mayor Jeanette Kretschmer (independent) informed that the first work had already begun during ongoing operations, before the holidays. There are currently 468 students attending the school and everyone is benefiting from the extensive renovations.

The community brilliantly managed to raise almost two million euros for the renovation. This financial support comes not only from our own resources, but also from the EU, the federal government and the state. The school's roof was replaced, all windows were replaced and numerous areas, such as the workrooms, the library and the schoolyard - now even with an amphitheater - were renovated. A new after-school building was inaugurated in the village and the IT rooms received a modern update. What is particularly pleasing is that predominantly regional companies were involved in the project, which strengthens the local economy.

Funding opportunities and climate protection

The energy-saving renovations in schools are part of a larger trend towards greater energy efficiency. Federal funding for efficient buildings (BEG) supports such measures in order to reduce energy costs and at the same time make a contribution to climate protection. According to information from BAFA, this program will continue through the turn of the year 2024/2025, and there are already plans to improve the application process for heat generators. For many schools and daycare centers, this means that they can not only change the built environment, but can also directly contribute to CO₂ reduction, which is not only good for the earth, but also for the wallet. BAFA reports that Application is made easier via an online portal, which improves accessibility for everyone involved.

The Federal Environment Ministry has recognized that climate protection in schools goes far beyond mere energy saving projects. A sustainable learning environment is becoming increasingly important. The National Climate Protection Initiative (NKI) supports these developments in order to bring school buildings up to energy standards. Particularly as part of the Corona economic stimulus package, the funding conditions have been significantly improved, which now creates particularly good conditions for implementing energy-saving measures. Klimaschutz.de emphasizes that the initiative provides both financial and advisory support.

Outlook for future developments

The renovation of the regional school in Niepars is a successful example of how targeted investments in education and infrastructure not only benefit the students, but can also set a serious example for climate protection. Future measures at the school include renewing the facade and designing a photovoltaic system to round off the energy concept. This shows that not only is a good hand demonstrated today, but also that people in Niepars are thinking about tomorrow.

Overall, the community's commitment shows that climate protection and education can go hand in hand. Energy-efficient renovations are not only a step towards reducing operating costs, but also an important factor for sustainable learning and teaching.
