Greifswald celebrates music: Ayaat Mohamed wins the 2025 Wing Prize!

The prestigious “Flügel” music initiative prize was awarded in Greifswald on October 28, 2025. The event took place in the Straze Culture and Initiative House and was a real highlight for the local art scene. The award winner is the musician Ayaat Mohamed, who was able to impress with her inspiring project “Building Bridges with Music”. This approach aims to break down language barriers and foster communities through music.

As a reward for her commitment, Mohamed received prize money of 5,000 euros, which she would like to use to purchase additional musical instruments. Through these purchases, she hopes to provide broader access to music for various groups in the region.

A day full of talent

A total of 15 projects were submitted, demonstrating the diversity and ingenuity of the artists from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. For Ayaat Mohamed, who only came to Greifswald in 2024 as part of the “Voluntary Service in the European Solidarity Corps” (ESK), this is an encouraging confirmation of her commitment. “I want to build bridges with my music,” she emphasizes.

A second prize was also awarded. The “artists MV” project from Dargun received a media package worth 4,000 euros. This project aims to increase the visibility of artists from the region and promote their contact with organizers. These awards clearly show that culture in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is flourishing and new impulses are needed to advance it further.

Cultural volunteer services as an opportunity

Ayaat's success is not only the result of her personal talents, but also a sign of how valuable volunteer services in the cultural sector are. In Germany there are various opportunities to get involved in a Voluntary Social Year (FSJ) or in the Federal Voluntary Service (BFD). Particularly in the areas of culture and education, these programs offer young people and adults the opportunity to gain practical experience and promote their creative abilities. Volunteers can work in many different cultural institutions, such as theaters, museums or schools, and thus actively shape their personal and professional development.

The positive response to the “Flügel” prize and the commitment of everyone involved show that culture and community can go hand in hand. Ayaat Mohamed will certainly inspire many more with her project, and we can look forward to the musical bridges she will build.
