Greifswald shows impressive UNICEF exhibitions for children's rights!
There are currently two important UNICEF exhibitions running in the Greifswald district office, which can be admired until the beginning of November 2025. The initiatives that should make our society think are entitled “UNICEF Photo of the Year” and “Violence Leaves a Mark”. These exhibitions address the realities of children's lives around the world and shed light on the often invisible challenges they face. Social Affairs Director Karina Kaiser highlights how vulnerable children are today and emphasizes the urgent need to protect them.
Every year, the “UNICEF Photo of the Year” awards impressive photos that document the living conditions of children. A tribute to those who are often forgotten - children who live in precarious conditions. The second exhibition “Violence Leaves Traces” addresses an explicitly important and often taboo topic: violence in education. This raises awareness of the fact that everyday violence against children, although often invisible, has serious effects on children's development and well-being.
A step towards raising awareness
UNICEF is launching a campaign under the motto #NeverViolence that aims to educate the public about the extent, different forms and profound consequences of violence against children. The campaign primarily aims to bring less visible forms of violence, such as psychological abuse, into public awareness. Many people are often not aware of how complex the issue of violence is and that it is not always openly displayed.
It is critical that school and administrative staff are able to respond appropriately to signs of violence. In addition, children should be informed about their rights so that they know who they can turn to in an emergency. UNICEF sees a clear need for action here and is committed to ensuring that children's rights are anchored in our constitution. This could bring about a significant improvement in child protection and help address grievances socially and legally.
An appeal for better conditions
The data on violence against children in Germany, as worldwide, is insufficient, which makes effective prevention very difficult. UNICEF therefore supports research projects to close these gaps. There is also a demand that youth welfare offices and judicial authorities be better equipped, both financially and in terms of personnel. Offers for children and parents that have a preventive and advisory effect must be available and easily accessible.
The exhibitions in the Greifswald district office are accessible during regular opening hours until November 3rd, 2025 and are strongly recommended. They invite you to think outside the box and raise your own awareness of the realities of children's lives.
