Foundation stone laid: New rescue station in Hintersee for better emergency assistance!
The urgently needed improvement in emergency care in rural areas is receiving a significant boost: a new rescue station is being built in Hintersee, on the border with Poland. With the official recent one Laying the foundation stone Construction work began on September 25, 2025. This initiative aims to significantly improve medical care in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district.
According to district spokeswoman Nele Hartleben, it is not only an important step for the citizens, but also an improvement in working conditions for employees. District Administrator Michael Sack (CDU) emphasizes that modern infrastructure is crucial for the safety of local people.
Design and equipment of the new rescue station
The new building will have a floor space of 345 square meters and is equipped with the most modern facilities: In addition to changing rooms and lounges, there will be a high-quality medical warehouse and parking spaces for emergency vehicles. Particularly noteworthy is the planned onePhotovoltaic system, which not only supplies electricity but also helps reduce operating costs. The estimated construction costs are around 1.5 million euros, with completion planned for autumn 2026.
The emergency services are currently staying in a rented holiday home, which does not meet today's standards. Waiting times, poor storage facilities and a lack of adequate changing areas are the norm in this environment. The seven-year construction period up to the laying of the foundation stone illustrates the urgency of the new building.
Responsibility and coverage area
The future rescue station will be responsible for the communities of Ahlbeck, Hintersee, Karpin and other areas up to Glashütte and Grünhof. It is not just the quantity of deployments that is crucial, the quality of care has also suffered under the current circumstances. This new facility aims to change that and ensure the quality of medical care in rural areas.
Additional rescue stations are also being planned in the region. For example, the foundation stone will soon be laid in Albinshof near Anklam. New expansion plans are also to be implemented in Murchin next year. While the rescue station in Ueckermünde is still in the planning phase, a location on the Ameos site near the heliport is being sought.
The importance of emergency services
The need for a well-equipped emergency service was also highlighted in a recent analysis of the level of performance in the emergency services, carried out by the Federal Highway Research Institute, clearly. The analysis shows that despite the challenges posed by the corona pandemic, the emergency rate has increased in recent years. For the period 2020/21, around 16.1 million emergency trips were evaluated, which underlines the importance of a functioning emergency service.
The new building in Hintersee is a symbol of a future-oriented rescue service that not only recognizes the need for medical care, but also improves the working conditions for employees. The new location is a further step towards better emergency care in rural regions.
