District road 4 in Jarmshagen: renovation ensures more traffic safety!
In Western Pomerania-Greifswald, a dilapidated section of the VG 4 district road between the districts of Jarmsdorf Hof 1 and Jarmsdorf Hof 2 is currently being renovated. This measure is intended not only to increase road safety, but also to significantly improve driving comfort. According to NDR, the costs for the renovation amount to around 430,000 euros and cover a distance of just under one kilometer. The district road is now being brought into shape with new asphalt surface layers and a road widening of five meters. The construction period is scheduled to last two and a half months and, for the safety of road users, the work will be carried out with the road completely closed.
“There’s something going on!” One could say, because the need for renovation is undisputed. The previous section between Levenhagen and Jarmshagen Hof 1 was successfully completed last year, which shows that a good hand was demonstrated here. Increasing traffic safety is a central concern in the region; after all, the infrastructure must be constantly adapted to the needs of its citizens. The work is now underway and promises to significantly improve the situation on site. NDR reports that this applies not only to drivers, but also to cyclists and pedestrians who travel along this route.
News from the road infrastructure
Parallel to the progress in Jarmshagen, there are also significant developments in road construction in other regions. This is how the renovation of the bridge over the Nagold in Wildberg begins. This measure is led by the federal government as the road construction authority and brings with it challenges for traffic, as drivers have to expect diversions and full closures. The bridge structure, which was built in 1957, had to be renewed due to serious defects that were discovered during an inspection in 2021. In this context, the new bridge will be raised by 1.1 meters and will have adapted drainage to avoid waterlogging during floods. LinkedIn informed about the renovation measures, which also include a walking and cycling path to improve the traffic situation.
In the context of all these infrastructure measures, it is interesting to look at the costs and investments in German road construction. In 2023, more than 13 billion euros were invested in this area, although sales recorded a decline of almost two billion euros. Nevertheless, road construction remains a central pillar of civil engineering, and apprenticeships in this sector are very popular. Road construction is one of the most popular apprenticeships, which shows how important the shortage of skilled workers is here too. Statista highlights that in 2023 the number of insolvency proceedings opened in road construction rose to 30, a worrying trend for the industry.
In summary, it can be said that many important projects are currently being pushed forward in the Vorpommern-Greifswald region and beyond to improve the road infrastructure. The renovation of the VG 4 district road in Jarmshagen is only part of a larger plan that takes the needs and safety of all road users into account.
