New splendor for Peenemünder Nordhafen: employee apartments under construction!

A lot is happening in the area of port development in the picturesque Peenemünde on the island of Usedom. The northern harbor, which once served as a cemetery for ships and was used for military purposes during the GDR era, has now been transformed into an attractive destination for sailors, yachts and holiday accommodation. “Visitors are enthusiastic about our harbor,” says Ronny Adelsberger, one of the developers of the marina. The port not only has a considerable number of berths, currently 175 for yachts up to 14 meters, but has also undergone rapid development. In 2015, 364 boats docked here, and in 2019 there were already over 1,000.

Another large project is in the starting blocks: Adelsberger and his partner Roland Gahler are planning to build new employee apartments directly at the marina. These should offer space for up to eight employees per apartment and are requested as part of a B-Plan application. Construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2026. This means that the northern port of Peenemünde will continue to rely on a modern general contractor environment and expand its capacities. Up to 16 employees currently work in the port, including a large number of seasonal workers, in order to meet the high tourist requirements.

What's new at the marina

Another highlight is the planned expansion to include a fourth boat hall behind the administration building, for which building permits have already been issued. This hall is used by Yachtservice Krauel, which offers boat building services. Completion is targeted for October 2023 and will further improve the marina's service. Interestingly, the new boat shed will form part of a landscaped holiday accommodation area that already includes ten permanent and 16 mobile holiday homes, as well as a playground and a beach volleyball court.

Guests should also not despise the “Heimathafen” bistro, which was built from Siberian larch and has a terrace that offers a wonderful view of the boats and floating houses.

Insurance for construction projects

With the upcoming construction work in the Nordhafen, questions about the relevant household contents insurance should not be ignored. For larger construction projects, it is advisable to inform the insurer before work begins in order to avoid possible problems in the event of damage. Good planning and information are crucial to avoid unpleasant surprises during or after construction work. For example, the insurance could require that any changes during construction must be reported to the insurer in order to maintain coverage. More on this topic can be found at moneysavingexpert.com.

Whether it's building a new employee dormitory or converting a property - the devil is always in the details. In order to be on the safe side with construction projects, particular attention should be paid to estimating the reconstruction costs. Here it makes sense to get professional help in order to correctly assess the actual value of the property. This is a good basis for leaving no blind spots throughout the entire project.

It remains exciting to see how the northern port of Peenemünde will develop in the coming years and whether the plans will actually be implemented on time. The potential is huge and the chances of an even better tourist attraction are good!
