New danger prevention center in Greifswald: Safer for Western Pomerania!
Next Tuesday, October 28, 2025, a significant step will be taken in Greifswald to improve the security infrastructure in the region. The foundation stone for a new emergency response center will take place on the site of the administration building on Feldstrasse, which will bring together a large number of central facilities. Again Northern Courier reports, this multifunctional center aims to significantly improve the cooperation between disaster control professionals.
The planned center will house, among other things, the rescue center, the integrated control center and the teleemergency doctor center. Fire and disaster protection with an entire management staff will also be set up. Pooling these resources in one place will make it possible to respond more quickly and effectively to natural disasters, fires or major accidents in the event of a crisis. The center is scheduled to go into operation in 2027.
A modern working environment
In order to offer employees a modern and efficient working environment, the hazard prevention center is equipped with modern technologies. In the interests of a sustainable energy supply, parts of the building are also provided with photovoltaic systems, and it will also be connected to the district heating network. This underlines the forward-looking orientation of the project, which will cost around 33.6 million euros. This investment is not only an improvement in the infrastructure, but also a milestone for security in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, he said NDR.
The district has already begun the preparatory measures: the first construction work began on August 25, 2025. The parking lot at the district administration will be closed to third-party parkers for the duration of the construction period. However, visitors and employees can still park their vehicles so that accessibility remains guaranteed.
Political support
Among those present at the laying of the foundation stone are District Administrator Michael Sack, District Council President Sandra Nachtweih and Deputy Citizenship President Dr. Andreas Kerath awaits. Your presence demonstrates the political support for this important project. The increasing need for efficient and well-organized disaster protection makes it clear that the new facilities in Greifswald are a real step into the future.
This also shows how seriously those responsible take the safety of the citizens in the district. Bringing all blue light forces together under one roof will make it possible to respond to emergencies more efficiently. Another indication of the need for such measures is the increasing frequency of natural disasters and major accidents, which require optimal preparation and rapid response.
Nowadays it is becoming increasingly important that such institutions work closely together and pool their resources. The danger prevention center in Greifswald could therefore be a model for other regions in order to ensure the long-term safety of the population.
