The 11th grades, about 140 young people, visited this historical place of learning to deepen their knowledge in subjects such as German, history, art and English.

What makes this place so special? From 1936 to 1945, Peenemünde served as the largest military research center in Europe. Up to 12,000 people worked on new weapon systems, including the first functioning large rocket and the world's first marching aircraft. Unfortunately, these weapons were designed as terrorist weapons against the civilian population and mostly manufactured by forced laborers, which illuminates the dark side of this research.

The excursion not only offered the students a historical insight, but also the opportunity to gain practical experience in various workshops. In German, for example, they discussed speeches by the military director of the army test institution. In the history and social studies lesson, a planned first successful flight of a large rocket in 1942 was discussed, which was ultimately canceled according to international protests. This shows how history can come alive.

The art was not neglected either: the architecture of modernity, embodied using the example of the Peenemünde Kraftwerk, was viewed artistically. In English, the students compared the German propaganda of the "retribution weapons" campaign with the reporting from America and Great Britain. In addition, workshops in mathematics, chemistry and biology were offered that illuminated the scientific aspects of this historical site.
