In June 2025, several exciting youth fire brigade competitions took place in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. On the first Saturday in June, 15 youth defense groups from the Vorpommern-Greifswald district came together for the district finals in Ferdinandshof. The participants were highly motivated and completed challenging tasks, including a fire-fighting attack without water and a 400-meter obstacle course. But the joy of the competitions was marred by scoring problems: an incorrect program caused confusion and led to a subsequent recalculation of the scores. This was spatially acknowledged by the Association of District Youth Fire Brigades. In the end, the best teams were determined at the negotiating table and not ultimately on the competition field, as originally planned. Despite the challenges, five teams can look forward to taking part in the national competition in July in Ticino.

- Lubmin I
- Ducherow I
- Rubenow
Another notable point is that the runner-up from Medow decided not to take part due to scheduling reasons. The youth officers from the other teams agreed to only travel to the competition in Ticino with one team, which shows a high level of cooperation. Erfried Firtzlaff, the head of the association, expressed satisfaction about the constructive exchange and announced that the competition judges would be given targeted training and that an information event would be organized for the youth officers.

Unfortunately, the youth fire brigade from Ueckermünde was disqualified due to a rule violation, which is the only downside to the event.
District elimination in Bad Doberan
Just a week later, on June 22, 2025, things went well at the youth fire brigade district round in Bad Doberan. Almost 30 youth fire brigades, including a children's fire brigade segment for the youngest, competed against each other. The best placed from this event was the Bützow youth fire department, followed by Ziesendorf and Nienhagen, who also qualified for the state competition. Here the participants showed full commitment in the firefighting attack with hurdles and a relay race with various stations that required a lot of skill. Among the children, the Ostseebad Nienhagen 2 were the big winners with a children's extinguishing attack, while a total of around 350 participants created a lively atmosphere.
The competitions in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are part of a larger framework that takes place every two years at the federal level and annually at the state or district level. This strengthens the team spirit and the training of the young people, according to jugendfeuerwehr.de, who emphasize how important such competitions are for the motivation of the young fire brigade members.
Youth work in the fire brigade is not only an excellent opportunity to learn important skills, but also a platform for making friends and promoting community cohesion. Now we can look forward to the state competition in Ticino and what talent will be presented there!
