Wolgast Zoo closed until the end of November – reasons and surprises!
In picturesque Wolgast, in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, the local zoo is closed until November 28th. This was announced by the zoo manager Mirko Daus, who emphasized that the closure is necessary in order to carry out the necessary leaf sweeping and tree care work. In particular, the park's forest location leads to large amounts of fallen leaves, which could affect not only the paths but also the well-being of the animals.
The number of visitors to the zoo remains stable and is estimated to be around 50,000 by the end of the year. However, despite these solid figures, the facility is faced with increasing operating costs, which are leading to financial deficits. This is an issue that also concerns other local institutions. From November 29th, zoo fans will again have the opportunity to explore the park and admire the diverse animal inhabitants.
The new residents
A particularly pleasing highlight in the zoo are the three little wolf cubs. Names are still being sought for the young wolves, and zoo visitors are invited to submit suggestions. This could be an exciting opportunity for visitors to actively participate in shaping the zoo's history and build a personal bond with the new residents.
The closure of the zoo is based not only on the practical requirements of foliage and tree care, but also on the financial sustainability of the operation. Mirko Daus hopes that these measures will maintain the park's attractiveness for families and animal lovers in the long term.
It remains to be seen whether the planned work and the reopening of the zoo will not only ensure operations but also help generate new numbers of visitors. At a time when the recreational value of nature experiences is very popular, the zoo could be an ideal place to go for the whole family.
