Danger of severe weather in northern Germany: violent thunderstorms and heavy rain are on the horizon!

Severe thunderstorms have hit northern Germany in the past few hours, and weather forecasts indicate an uncomfortable time for the region. Like that NDR reported, there is a significant risk of severe weather on Monday, especially in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Lower Saxony. Heavy thunderstorms are expected in the affected areas from late afternoon onwards, with rainfall amounts of between 30 and 60 liters per square meter possible - locally up to 100 liters are possible in 6 to 12 hours.

Gusts of up to 85 km/h and hail could also cause additional dangers. The temperatures reach a pleasant 26 degrees, on the coast it is up to 24 degrees. However, this is in stark contrast to the announced weather changes that are already being felt today. The German Weather Service predicts unstable conditions due to the influence of a low pressure area that brings cooler North Atlantic air.

Regional differences and first thunderstorms

Particularly in the east of Lower Saxony, prolonged rain is expected from the afternoon onwards. Meanwhile, local showers and strong thunderstorms are expected in the west and southwest. The temperatures in western Lower Saxony are around 21 degrees, while in the Osnabrück area it gets up to 26 degrees. Additionally, weather conditions indicate possible strong and gale force gusts (55 to 75 km/h), which may lead to dangerous conditions.

Changeable weather is already forecast for Hamburg today, with heavily cloudy skies and a little rain in the eastern part of the city. The maximum values are an acceptable 21 to 23 degrees. The weather service always repeats that intense heavy rain cannot be ruled out, especially in the northeastern area of the Elbe.

Effects and important information

These unstable weather conditions are not just a challenge for local residents. They also lead to an urgent call on the federal government to hold top-level meetings with the countries concerned in order to coordinate further action in this tense weather situation. But it's not just the weather that's a concern; There is also a case that is in focus before the Stade regional court, where a 35-year-old is being tried because of a family dispute.

Finally, meteorologists advise people to be particularly careful during thunderstorms and heavy rain. Protection against lightning strikes and the provision of first aid should not be neglected - it is important to be informed in a timely manner and to take the necessary precautions.
