According to Zeit.de it was around 7 p.m. when a 46-year-old driver got on the oncoming lane and collided there with an oncoming van. In the accident, the driver, her nine-year-old son and the 74-year-old driver of the vans were slightly injured.

The exact cause of the accident is still unclear. The 46-year-old woman was traveling towards Groß Luckow with her car while the man came towards his van. Due to the collision, the van came off the street and crashed into a guideline and a tree. The two vehicles were no longer ready to drive after the accident and had to be towed.

follow and emergency services

The K 68 was temporarily blocked during the rescue and accident recording, which presented the emergency services with an additional challenge. In addition to the police and the emergency services, eleven comrades from the Blumenhagen volunteer fire brigade were also deployed. They had already mastered a different challenge on this day when they had previously moved out for a cocklike shed in Schönwalde and even had to support them in a wedding before they were called to the accident. This shows once again how versatile and resilient our fire brigade is.

The estimates over the total damage of the accident amount to around 76,000 euros. This involves this incident in the worrying statistics on traffic accidents that cost thousands of human lives every year in the EU. As reports [europarl.eu] (https://www.europarl.europa.eu/topics/de/article/20190410sto36615/ traffic accident statistics-in-eu-infographic), the number of racing dead in Europe has dropped, but the risk remains high.

traffic safety in focus

With 18 traffic fatalities per 1 million inhabitants,

Sweden has the safest roads in the EU, while Romania reported the highest rate with 85 traffic fatalities per 1 million inhabitants in 2020. In the age group of 18- to 24-year-olds, traffic victims are still a challenge, even if the proportion of the racing dead has decreased entirely. If there is no consciousness or precautionary measures, it can be life -threatening for every road user.

It remains to be hoped that the causes of these accidents can be resolved quickly and that similar incidents will be avoided in the future. After all, the people in Groß Luckow and the surrounding area want safe roads and fear -free driving.
