Salesman remains a dream job: training opportunities in Western Pomerania are exploding!
In the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, the employment agencies took stock of the 2025 training year at the end of October. Surprisingly, fewer young people were looking for vacant training places. In the period from October 2024 to September 2025, 1,064 young people were looking for a place. However, the companies reported 1,151 vacant training positions. This meant that the young people had more chances than applicants. Nevertheless, a total of 193 training positions remained unfilled as of September 30th.
The unfilled positions are concentrated primarily in the metal production and processing, textile processing and sales of drugstore and pharmacy goods sectors, where there are only a few applicants for numerous open positions. The reports on these developments Baltic Sea newspaper.
Popularity ranking of professions
What are the most sought-after careers among young people? The most popular training occupation remains salesman, for which 81 applicants want to go to school. Office management clerks and medical assistants are also very popular among young women, while many boys choose to become automotive mechatronics engineers. What is particularly noteworthy is that in areas such as agriculture, forestry or animal care, there are more applicants than training places.
According to the Training website In Germany, the impressive landscapes of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the diverse leisure opportunities in cities like Rostock or Schwerin are a further incentive for many trainees. In Rostock, for example, numerous festivals are held that also offer attractive variety for vocational students.
General training statistics in Germany
If you look at the situation in Germany as a whole, it shows Statista Survey shows that over 690,000 people started vocational training in 2023. In the same year there were 328 different training occupations, while the number of trainees has fallen sharply in recent years. These data show that more and more young people are deciding to study, which is leading to training places not being filled. The plumbing profession recorded the most unfilled positions last year.
But even if the training positions exceed the number of applicants, the main reason for unfilled places is often the lack of suitability of the applications, according to the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK). It remains to be seen how the situation will develop in the coming years.
For many young people, however, it still means: stick with it and take advantage of opportunities! The many open training positions offer excellent opportunities for a successful start to your professional life.
