Bus driver on Rügen causes two accidents – police are investigating!

A 68-year-old coach driver from Baden-Württemberg caused quite a stir on Rügen on Saturday, July 19th by causing two traffic accidents. The first incident occurred around 10:40 a.m. on State Road 29 near Mukran. There was a collision between exterior mirrors when the bus driver rammed an oncoming vehicle, a Volvo driven by a 30-year-old Polish truck driver. Baltic Sea newspaper reported that the bus driver then simply disappeared from the scene of the accident, which caused a stir. However, a passenger on the bus had the courage to come forward and inform the police.

The second accident occurred a few hours later at around 2:45 p.m. on Jasmunder Strasse in Nipmerow, but had a similarly fatal outcome. Here the bus driver was no longer able to maintain control of the vehicle due to health problems and hit a tree branch with the right outside mirror. This incident caused property damage of around 1000 euros. Here, too, the police quickly determined that the driver had violated the road traffic regulations and that the truck driver had left the scene of the accident without permission.

Investigations are ongoing

The police have now launched an investigation into endangering road traffic and the bus driver's driver's license has been confiscated. Such incidents raise questions, especially considering that many road users depend on road safety.

Dangerous traffic situations occur again and again on Rügen. Another controversial incident occurred in August last year when the owner of a convertible hit a 13-year-old student. He was seriously injured and had to be taken to hospital in a rescue helicopter. daily news describes that the driver fled after the incident after apparently intentionally hitting the child. The boy had recently disturbed the driver with a provocative gesture. The vehicle owner's driving license has now been revoked.

All these incidents highlight the need to raise awareness about road safety. Especially in regions popular with tourists such as Rügen, drivers should be aware of their responsibilities and pay attention to the road traffic regulations.
