Volunteering in the spotlight: Grimmen honors community heroes!

In Grimmen, a charming town in the Vorpommern-Rügen district, twelve volunteers were honored for their special commitment on October 17, 2025. The evening, which took place in the Kulturhaus Treffpunkt Europas, attracted around 80 guests, including members from over 100 clubs in the region. The celebrations were organized by the “Volunteering, Children, Sport and Culture” support association, which was founded a year ago by Mayor Marco Jahns (CDU). The aim of the association is to promote regional appreciation and to honor people who are committed to the common good.

The honored volunteers came from various backgrounds. These included committed members of the German Red Cross as well as six athletes who not only excel in competition but also do a lot for their community. Two teams were even recognized for their efforts. For the honor, the winners received vouchers for regional gastronomy, a nice gesture that supports local businesses.

Commitment to the region

The support association has so far been financed through the city's budget, but Mayor Jahns also has bigger plans. He would like to attract regional sponsors so that the awards can be held annually in the future. This not only supports volunteer work, but also strengthens the sense of community in Grimmen. This is also evident in the MitMachZentrale, which offers advice for small clubs and committed people in the city. Volunteering is a central part of our society and shows how many people who do not act for money but out of conviction actively do good.
