Experience the Third Blue Light Day: Police up close in Stralsund!
A special highlight is coming up in the Vorpommern-Rügen region: On September 25, 2025, the state police's third blue light day will take place in the new Stralsund police headquarters. The site, which has been in operation since 2023, will cost around 12 million euros to modernize its operations. With a capacity of around 150 police officers, including the criminal investigation department, the building not only offers space but also an insight into the diverse work of the police.
Blue light day begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. During this time, those interested have the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of police work. Tours of the headquarters and various stands on police work are on the program. Visitors can even take action themselves by securing their fingerprints - an interesting insight into the methods of the criminal police.
Diverse insights into the police
Blue Light Day has a wide range of options on offer. Highlights include visits to a water police inflatable boat and a special motorway police vehicle. In addition, the day is not only an opportunity to learn about police work, but also one for potential future police officers to learn more about training. A police spokeswoman emphasizes that this is an excellent way to reduce fear of contact.
Anyone interested in a career with the police will not be disappointed either: the University of Applied Sciences in Güstrow provides information about the details of the training. Applications can be submitted from August 1st, 2026, with the deadline running until December 31st, 2025.
Training at the technical college
The training to become a police master lasts two years and includes a varied combination of theory and practice. Trainees can look forward to a training allowance of around 1,478 euros per month. The theoretical courses at the Güstrow University of Applied Sciences are organized in seminars from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., supplemented by intensive sports training and internships in police work - a well-founded preparation for later use on the street.
The requirements for applicants are clearly defined: for the middle service, a secondary school leaving certificate or completed vocational training is sufficient, while for the higher service, a technical college entrance qualification is required. In addition, applicants must have German citizenship or that of an EU nation and must not have a criminal record. A multi-stage aptitude test ensures that only the best candidates enter the police service.
Police training in Germany aims to produce well-trained officers who have both theoretical and practical skills in order to be effective in their duties. This is crucial because the reality on the road requires quick action and informed decisions.
Overall, the Blue Light Day in Stralsund not only promises exciting insights into police work, but also a valuable opportunity for young people to find out about a meaningful career. If you are interested in the police, you should definitely not miss this appointment and take advantage of the opportunity to answer any questions you may have right there.
