Gingster Welle: School newspaper from Rügen triumphs in Berlin!
Gingst, Deutschland - On June 27, 2025, the school newspaper "Gingster Welle" from the regional school in Gingst was awarded a great third place in the nationwide competition of the best school newspapers. Headmaster André Farin accompanied the excited editors on their trip to Berlin, where the award ceremony took place in the plenary hall of the German Federal Council. The event, which was organized as part of the motto "No sheet in front of the mouth", celebrated a total of 32 excellent school newspapers from 13 federal states. The Federal Council President Manuela Schwesig emphasized the important role of the school newspapers for the discussion of current topics among young people and their connection to journalistic practice.
The "Gingster Welle" received a lot of praise for their clear layout and the contributions worth reading. An article on the side effects of the Störtebeker Festival and the sporting activities at the school were particularly emphasized. Long -term editor Lotta Oppermann emphasized how such awards increase the motivation of the students to continue their journalistic work. Such experiences are not only valuable for the portfolio, but also a great incentive for the future.
A look at the competition
As part of the competition, a total of 35 school newspapers from eleven federal states were awarded, which previously had to prevail in state competitions against other participants. Among the 18 categories in which prices were awarded, there were also special prices for special journalistic achievements and topics supported by various institutions. On the list of special prices was, for example, "commitment to a better society", which shows how important social topics are for the young editors.
- Special topics for special prices:
- use for a better society (Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth)
- still wall (s) in the head - history on your front door (Federal Center for Political Education)
- Your contributions to Europe (representation of the European Commission in Germany)
In addition, the youth press Germany offered a mobile media academy through which interested participants can lead workshops to promote media literacy for children and adolescents. Such educational offers are essential to give young people the necessary hand tool for a critical examination of the media, which is not to be neglected in today's digital world.
Anyway, the students who work on the "Gingster Welle" show that they have a good knack and are strongly dealing with current topics in society. We can be excited to see what exciting contributions you will present in the future and what successes are in the next competitions.
