Sanacorp is investing 20 million euros in a modern logistics center in Stralsund
In Stralsund there is currently a lot of investment in the future of the pharmacy sector. Sanacorp, a cooperative of pharmacists based in Planegg near Munich, has finalized plans for a new logistics center in the industrial area behind the Triebseer Wiesen. This initiative is supported with around 20 million euros and is designed to significantly increase the efficiency of medication supply in the region. This is reported by the Baltic Sea newspaper.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the new logistics center took place on August 12, 2025. With an area of around 13,500 square meters, the building will provide space for a large warehouse and offices for around 60 employees. A total of 70 jobs will be created there, including 9 training positions. The structure is designed to be single-story and a photovoltaic system is planned to minimize the ecological footprint. The aim of the measure? Faster delivery to around 200 pharmacies in northeast Germany, including Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and northern Brandenburg. Sanacorp has been supplying these pharmacies since 1991 and thus assumes a key function in the regional pharmaceutical supply. NDR adds that the old depot dates back to the 1960s and generally caused problems because it was spread over several floors.
A look into the future
The construction work is progressing according to plan and the roof covering with trapezoidal sheets will begin next week. The columns for the warehouse have currently been erected and the assembly of the cross beams and the 40 meter long roof supports is also progressing quickly. Sanacorp is planning to move into the new operations building in the summer of 2026. Internal coordination for the interior work is currently in full swing. With sales of 7.4 billion euros in 2024, the company, which operates 19 branches nationwide, has a good hand in the industry. Baltic Sea newspaper highlights that around 100 tours are organized every day to supply pharmacies from Rügen to Kühlungsborn and beyond.
Sanacorp, which will celebrate its 100th birthday in 2024, is not only a player in medicine logistics, but also plays an important role in the training of young people. 9 of the 70 new employees will work as trainees in the new premises - an investment in the future of the industry.
With the progress of this project, Sanacorp not only shows a strong commitment to regional supply, but also that the pharmacy community in Germany remains highly valued. This shows how tradition and modernity can go hand in hand to meet the increasing demands in healthcare.
