Störtebeker Festival 2025: A fan fights for his little hero

The anticipation for the 30th season of Störtebeker Festival on the island of Rügen is great. From June 28th to September 13, 2025, the most exciting stories about Klaus Störtebeker will be alive, on one of the largest open -air stages in Europe in Ralswiek. The mixture of spectacular stunts, elaborate costumes and captivating stories promises to captivate the audience. This year the topic of “privateers of the sea” is in the center and the number of actors is impressive: over 150 contributors, including 30 horses and 4 ships, contribute to the spectacular experience.

like the Baltic Sea Zeitung reports, the Störtebeker Festival is not only a cultural highlight, but also captivate the entire audience. Bruno Apitz, a loyal fan from Dierhagen, is one of the passionate supporters who regularly visit the dress rehearsals. He has been enthusiastic about the performances since 2008 and dreams of an acting career. The warm relationship between actors and fans makes these festival something very special, especially for the little ones among the spectators.

outstanding staging

This season is staged by the play "Hamburg 1401", which tells the painful history of Klaus Störtebeker, which is executed. Director Louis Villinger brings a bit into the idea that Störtebeker shows in a deep identity crisis. Leading actor Moritz Stephan embodies the doubtful hero. The staging deals with complars, the Natalia of Beieren and Simon von Utrecht against Störtebeker. Wolfgang Lippert will be on stage again as a ballad singer and enchant the spectators with new and classic songs.

The performances are characterized by an opulent staging: dramatic moments, a naval battle, a burning mill and dream sequences give the story of unmistakable pep. The remarkable backdrop, which is rounded off with an changeable stage design and an impressive fireworks above the large Jasmunder Bodden, makes an unforgettable experience every evening.

urgent topics and personal fates

In addition to the festive atmosphere for the festival, there are also serious topics in the region. From the NDR we already reported on Lio, a four-year-old boy from putbus and suffers from a brain tumor. His parents strive to give him as much joy as possible and have advice on the “Sternen Bridge” hospice in Hamburg in order to give him a tolerable time. It is to be hoped that such stories will not forget in the shadow of the festival.

The festival also focused on a cobination of culture and technology: the law firm Welz in Stralsund has introduced an artificial intelligence called "Marie", which summarizes incoming calls and sends the content to the lawyers. This innovative system is intended to help optimize the work processes without endangering jobs.

In the meantime there are also local heroes that earn recognition. As part of the Feuerheld/Feuerheldin OZ campaign, the finalists were announced in 2025, who can be voted for the title by July 16. Almost 5000 votes have already been submitted and the region can be proud of the nominations of Tim Nahrstedt, Anne Berner, Michael Homuth and Gregor Wedig.

The Störtebeker Festival is not just a national event, they are the sign of cohesion, joy and also for the inevitable challenges that many people master every day. Preparations are in full swing, and the first performances promise to move into the hearts of many spectators in the summer of 2025.
