Warnemünder Week: Sailing highlights and concerts attract visitors!
Warnemünde Week celebrates its fourth day and offers spectators a colorful mix of exciting competitions and cultural events. On July 8, 2025, the culinary coastal town of Warnemünde will see numerous sailing boats on the Baltic Sea. In the last few days, more than 800 participants from 38 nations with over 600 boats have competed in the 87th Warnemünde Week event. Even though the competitions in the various classes are already in full swing, it is far from over: the first yachts of the “Rund Bornholm” regatta are expected in Warnemünde in the evening, while the event extends until July 13th. NDR reports.
The focus is particularly on the ILCA races, where Ole Schweckendiek from the Kiel Yacht Club is currently in a good place. With a sixth and tenth place in the ILCA 7, the story tells of promotion and fighting spirit. During the training week, which was favored by the wind conditions, around 139 sailors took part in all three ILCA classes. In the ILCA 6, Poland's Wiktoria Golebiowska is currently leading with two first places. Interestingly, the event is not only a hit with local sailors but also attracts international athletes from Australia, India, South Africa, Brazil and Canada. This diversity makes Warnemünde Week an integral part of the world's largest regatta calendar. The Warnemünder
Sporting highlights and weather conditions
The races are always characterized by an exciting head-to-head race; Uffe Tomasgaard from Norway leads the ILCA 7 with two wins. The conditions on the day of the competition are often ideal: a wind of around 17 knots and light rain made for exciting races, and the swimming regatta was also pleased about 21 yachts in three groups that were successfully completed. This not only shows the great popularity of the sailing event, but also the much-cited strength of the region when it comes to organizing such events. The Warnemünder.
However, the organizers of the event, including Peter Ramcke, also emphasize the ambitions of establishing Warnemünde as a future location for Olympic sailing competitions in 2036, 2040 or 2044. The event ensures a good infrastructure, which is supported by the newly opened sports school in Warnemünde. In addition to the regattas, which are aimed primarily at professional sailors, every race of participants is welcome, which gives the event character an additional, family touch. Warnemünde Week
