Borgfeld, Deutschland - On May 31, 2025, an author in Borgfeld-Timmersloh plans to create a 40 square meter organic vegetable garden. In doing so, she pursues the goal of harvesting and enjoying vegetables without plastic packaging. Although she has no experience in gardening, she was encouraged by her neighbor Karin Böttjer, who, with the saying "The stupidest farmers harvest the thickest potatoes". This urban gardening project comprises 140 planned mini plants, which contain various salads, red and yellow pray, zucchini, pumpkin, ring and cornflowers, spinach, kohlrabi, chard and parsley.

In order to ensure a healthy harvest, the arable land was prepared for strict organic guidelines last November and planted with seedlings in May. These areas belong to Petra and Ingo Stelljes-Subarw, who have grown vegetables since the 1950s and pass on their experience to new gardeners. Part of the surfaces is rented to the Essen start-up Ackerhelden that offers organic land in parcel format. The cost of a plot is 250 euros per season, while a yield of vegetables worth 900 euros is expected.

This year 33 plots are rented out, often to experienced gardeners who already have valuable knowledge.
