Netherlands sounds the alarm: firecracker attacks in court!
Firecracker attacks have increased in Germany in recent weeks, which is cause for concern. The Netherlands warn Germany urgently about the increase in such incidents. According to reports in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Dutch broadcaster RTL Nieuws, Germany plays a crucial role in producing explosive devices from firecrackers used to blow up ATMs and other criminal activities. Seven dealers have already been identified in the border area who have a criminal record in the Netherlands, but continue to operate in Germany and sell pyrotechnics there.
The numbers from the neighboring country speak volumes: there were around 1,100 explosive attacks in the Netherlands last year, some of them with tragic outcomes. Rotterdam police chief Koklu is urgently calling for increased cooperation in Europe to counteract such explosions. Integrating security measures could have a preventive effect and curb illegal trade.
Who doesn't love a good fireworks display?
Firecrackers are a popular way to celebrate festivals. But serious injuries often occur, which are often associated with improper handling. The police intelligence shows that many injuries are caused by alcohol abuse or illegal products. Every year the police in Austria confiscate around three tons of illegal fireworks. These products, often manufactured in Asia, can contain dangerous chemical substances and cause malfunctions due to poor quality.
To increase safety when handling fireworks, there are some clear tips: firing rockets in suitable launching devices, following the instructions for use and closing windows and doors are some of the most important tips. In Austria, many pyrotechnic articles in category F2 are generally prohibited in local areas unless an exemption is granted. Fireworks must not be used, particularly near crowds of people, such as hospitals or retirement homes.
Legal situation and penalties
In Germany, the regulations regarding fireworks and explosives vary from state to state. Catalogs of fines show that setting off fireworks without a permit can cost up to 10,000 euros. North Rhine-Westphalia has particularly strict regulations: anyone who sets off fireworks without timely notification must expect fines of between 250 and 2,600 euros. The use of uncertified firecrackers, such as the infamous “Poland firecrackers”, can even result in criminal prosecution.
The safety regulations are clear: firecrackers near hospitals, children's homes or gas stations are strictly prohibited. It is extremely important to take the legal regulations when dealing with fireworks seriously in order to protect both yourself and others. The upcoming celebrations should not be overshadowed by dangerous incidents. It is therefore essential to use pyrotechnics responsibly.
