VfL Wildeshausen secures two talents from Delmenhorst!

Wildeshausen, Deutschland - On June 5, 2025, VfL Wildeshausen signed two promising talents, which previously played at JFV Delmenhorst. Finn Cordes and Calvin Flügger have decided to play for the district league team for the coming season instead of changing the top soccer team SV Atlas Delmenhorst. Team manager Bernd Kinzel explains that the prospect of more playing time at Wildeshausen was decisive for this step. Cordes, a 19-year-old central defender from Wildeshausen, and the 18-year-old offensive player Flügger were known for their achievements in the A-Youth Landesliga, where they and their team took third place. Both talents have already completed training sessions with the men of Atlas Delmenhorst, but returned to their roots.

Kinzel emphasizes that the transition to the men's area is a major challenge. "You shouldn't expect too much of the talents," he says. In addition to Cordes and Flügger, Lauren Smolna and Jannik Stöver also move into the squad of the first team. While Smolna acts as a central midfielder, Stöver is striker.

The challenges after relegation

VfL Wildeshausen had relegated from the Landesliga last season. Several players were adopted before the last game of the season, including Maximilian Seidel and Fynn Meyer. Erodit Stublla, another talented player, also changes from the Wildeshauser A-youth to the men's national league team SFN Vechta. Kinzel explains that the descent is not a shame and that one wants to land among the top five with the rejuvenated squad in the district league. The focus is on a quiet year to seamlessly integrate the young players into the team.
