Rodgau, Deutschland - On May 30, 2025, Peter Osterwold, better known as "Osti", celebrates his 75th birthday. As a front man of the band Rodgau Monotones, he has a permanent place in the Hessian music scene. The band has developed into a trademark for the Rodgau and Rödermark region over the years and is very popular in Hesse. The best known hits of the monotones include "Volle Lotte!", "Frach me net" and "The Hesse come!"

Osterwold was born in Wolfenbüttel in 1950 and learned to play the drums autodidactically. In 1971 he moved to Hesse with his wife Birgit and her child, where he discovered singing in the community center. In 1977 he joined the Rodgau Monotones and, together with his bandmates, shaped the unmistakable style of the group, which initially appeared with cover versions of sizes such as ZZ Top and Queen. The goal of the five-member music team was to turn away from the German and jazz rock and the creation of its own party rock sound.

The story of the Rodgau Monotones

The Rodgau Monotones were founded in November 1977. The band's sound quickly developed; Just one year after the foundation, there were the first appearances with up to 2000 spectators. Henny Nachtsheim joined the band as a saxophonist in 1978 and was later also active as a well -known member of the Comedyduos Bathing salt. The first few years were shaped by spontaneous people, and the band tested their repertoire in small clubs and margins. They had to end their first appearance in the Batschkapp in Frankfurt in 1980 due to insufficient material.

1982 followed the publication of the debut album "Do you want music, or what?!" And marked the beginning of a remarkable ascent. With the hit "Egg, Gude like!" The nationwide breakthrough through the second album “Escape point Dudenhofen” finally achieved the nationwide breakthrough. This success was in 1984 with the single "The Hesse coming!" Further solidified that received a lot of airplay in Hesse. In the following years the band played at many big events and festivals and performed together with icons such as Santana and Bob Dylan.

The successes of the Rodgau Monotones were not without challenges. In 1990 there was a break when Henny Nachtsheim left the band towards the bath salt. After a break of one and a half years, the group returned with Kerstin Pfau, which perfectly added to the humor and energy of the band. In 2001, Matthias "Mattl" Dörsam joined the band as the new saxophonist, while the wind set was dissolved. Despite changing occupations, the band remains an integral part of the live scene in Germany.

The Rodgau Monotones have also kept their presence on stage in the recent past. The 40th anniversary was recently celebrated in the Offenbach Stadthalle. The next opportunity to experience the band live will follow on June 13th at the opening of the Hessentag in Bad Vilbel.
