Ostral Biennale 2025: Make art tangible in Dresden Robotron canteen!
Dresden, Deutschland - On June 7, 2025, the Ostral Biennale O25 in Dresden opens an important event in the art scene that presents international artistic positions. This 15th international exhibition of contemporary art takes place in the former Robotron canteen, a historical place with a GDR architecture, which now symbolizes a digital new beginning. The Biennale extends over a period of three months to October 5, 2025 and includes various installations and projects that invite the audience to deal with social issues.
A highlight of the opening is the light sculpture "infinitely blue", which is installed in public space in front of the Robotron canteen. This German-Czech cooperation project was developed by the artists Lucas Oertel from Germany and Jan Danzig from the Czech Republic and was created in the former Freiut Wermsdorf. "Infinitely blue" is an immersive glass work that was manufactured in a former cowshed. It addresses emotions and social issues, especially in times of crisis, and is supported by the State Directorate of Saxony and the German-Czech Future Fund. The curator Veronika Krülle Kotoucova emphasizes the importance of concentrated work locations for artists, while Jürgen and Birgit Koch have renovated the freelance and support the project.
artistic diversity of the Ostral
In addition to the lighting sculpture, the Ostral Biennale offers a variety of events. Among other things, interactive exhibitions such as the "Nature Experience Room", which opened and see on June 7, 2024, are planned and designed, especially for people with special needs in the area of hearing. The children's film program as part of the 36th Filmfest Dresden on April 21, 2024 also promises a special experience for younger audience. Other exhibitions and events that deal with various aspects of contemporary art can be expected in the coming months.
The Ostral Center for Contemporary Art has developed into an important place for art and communication, where creative ideas meet and be exchanged. The move to Rethelstraße 45 in Dresden has improved access to workshops and exhibition rooms, which expands the possibilities for artists and promotes new commitment.
The larger picture of contemporary art
The context of the Ostral Biennale is expanded by other important events in Germany, including the Berlin Biennale for contemporary art. This Biennale event takes place every two years in Berlin and focuses on the potential of art in politically challenging times. The 13th Biennale under the title "The fleeting passing on" attracts art lovers: inside from all over the world and offers a platform for young artists: inside, innovative and provocative works. Your venues, including the KW Institute for Contemporary Art and the Hamburg train station, can be easily reached by public transport and often offer free events.
The Ostral Biennale O25 not only offers an insight into the contemporary art landscape, but is also in a lively exchange with other important art events in Germany. Both Biennals help create a space for dialogues and artistic exchange that is shaped by always current social issues.
