Revolutionary living trend: Tiny Houses and ship containers conquer Bavaria!

In the Bavarian city of Landsberg, Philip Michl, a 22-year-old founder, has developed an innovative concept for alternative forms of living with his start-up "Contain-US". The company specializes in the production of Tiny Houses from used ship containers and aims to meet modern residential needs. The company's factory hall smells of fresh wood, while a young team works on diverse projects that range from saunas to mini cinemas. In 2022, the start-up achieved sales of 350,000 euros and is aiming for sales of 850,000 euros for 2023. Michl emphasizes that production often does not come after the high demands of demand, which reflects the popularity of Tiny Houses in Bavaria. These cost between 59,000 euros for a 15-square-meter house and 140,000 euros for two-story extensions.

The increasing demand for alternative forms of living is not only due to Michl's innovative approaches. According to a study by the Pestel Institute, almost 200,000 social housing is missing in Bavaria, which increases the need for new living concepts. This is underpinned by the average net rent in the region, which in Starnberg at 18.79 euros per square meter and in Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen at EUR 13.26. In addition, the trend towards sustainability and self -sufficiency in living space design is becoming increasingly important, as a current survey shows.

growing interest in sustainable living

A survey of interhyp of 1,000 respondents reveals that 43% of Germans prefer ecological standards when choosing their living space. 90% of the respondents consider environmental protection and energy saving in the planning of the house building. These results clarify that alternative forms of living are increasingly arithmetical in public perception. Michl and his team support this trend through the use of sustainably produced materials, such as wood for the facades and green roofs to create environmentally friendly habitats.

innovations in residential construction are not new. Prefabricated houses are gaining popularity and in 2022 almost every fourth family home in Germany was made prefabricated. The first 3D printed apartment building in Europe, which was built in Weißenhorn in 2021, also shows the development in the construction industry. This is also associated with the advent of Earthships that consist of natural and recycled materials and are planned in cities such as Erlangen.

Financial support from KfW loans

To advance the expansion of such sustainable residential projects, founders such as Michl can use funding, for example through KfW loans. Mirjam Mohr from Interhyp recommends checking such funding opportunities before construction begins. This option is particularly relevant because the demand for energy -efficient living space continues to increase and the energetic standards in the construction industry are highly located.

In addition to Tiny Houses, other alternative forms of living such as houseboats and ecological communities are also becoming increasingly popular. While Tiny Houses are often suitable for individualists, larger concepts such as ecodörfer offer space for community and sustainable life.

Philip Michl plans to further expand his company and to found a furniture manufacturer called "Wurzelschmiede" in order to be able to meet the demand for its products even better. With his innovative approaches, he helps to make a significant contribution to solving the housing shortage in Bavaria. In addition, his father, Richard Michl, Mayor of Windach, supports the promotion of alternative forms of living, which benefits regional development.

The future of living in Bavaria could therefore be promising if it continues to develop towards sustainability and innovation. The growing interest in Tiny Houses and other alternative forms of living shows the change in the living habits and the willingness of people to research new lifestyles.
