Large training exchange in Kaiserslautern: opportunities for the future!

On June 18, 2025, the training exchange in Kaiserslautern will take place in the Fritz-Walter Stadium from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Under the motto "With a double pass to the training position", around 140 training companies present themselves, including the RPTU, which acts as one of the largest employers in the region. The event aims to offer young people an orientation when entering the professional world and to facilitate the search for a suitable apprenticeship. Not only are young people invited, but also their parents, friends and teachers.

The ADA Lovelace project of the RPTU, which invites you to inspire girls and young women for MINT professions (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology), is particularly emphasized. As part of the training exchange, a hands-on campaign to control a small robot with color codes is offered, which does not require any previous knowledge. The participants can playfully discover the programming world and develop digital skills that are increasingly in demand in future professions. The focus is on the fun factor, while the pressure is minimized in group activities.

Promotion of MINT competencies

The ADA Lovelace project aims to offer role models and practical experience in order to reduce the traditional distribution of roles and strengthen the positive image of MINT professions. Through events that enable practical experimentation and tinkering, girls should be encouraged to be interested in careers in these promising sectors. Anja Huth, head of the employment agency Saxony-Anhalt West, emphasizes the excellent perspectives that offer MINT professions. An exciting development is the increase in the proportion of women among applicants for MINT training positions, which was 13.4 percent in 2024, which corresponds to 1.8 percentage points more than ten years ago.

Another interesting aspect is the increased demand for MINT skills in all professions. Digitization and economic transformation requires specialists with the appropriate training, which makes securing the need for skilled workers extremely important in these areas. In 2024 of 60,912 employees subject to social security contributions, almost a quarter worked in MINT professions in 2024, and the proportion of older employees in these professions shows a significant increase in 8.1 percent in 2014 to around 14 percent in 2024.

outlook on the training exchange

The training exchange in Kaiserslautern thus represents a valuable platform to inspire pupils for a future in technical and scientific professions. With the special focus on the promotion of girls in MINT professions, an important step towards closing the gender gap in these sectors is taken. Against the background that there are 328 apprenticeships in Germany, of which 145 MINT professions are alone, it is crucial that young people are given the opportunity to gain initial insights into this professional world at an early stage.
