Attention Saxony-Anhalt: There is a risk of thunderstorms and heavy rain on Sunday!

The German Weather Service (DWD) is sounding the alarm: Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected in Saxony-Anhalt on Sunday, July 13, 2025. This warning is valid until 5 p.m. and affects the Saale district, Mansfeld-Südharz, the city of Halle (Saale), the Burgenland district and the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district. The meteorologists warn urgently about various dangers that could be associated with the upcoming storms. These include lightning strikes, falling trees, falling objects and rapid flooding of streets. Drivers in particular should be careful: aquaplaning and hailstorms pose additional risks. The weather experts also make clear recommendations: It is advisable to stay inside if possible, close windows and doors and secure objects outside. Flooded sections, such as underpasses, should be avoided to ensure your own safety. Further information on the expected storms can be found on the Weather Central, which provides clear maps for affected areas.

The warnings for Saxony-Anhalt also include a heavy rain warning that lasts until 8 p.m. and primarily affects the Stendal district and the Altmark district of Salzwedel. According to the forecasts, up to 25 liters of precipitation per square meter can be expected within an hour, which increases the risk of flooding. The DWD and other weather services such as Wetter.com recommend keeping an eye on current reports in order to be able to react in a timely manner to changes in the weather situation.

Storm forecasts and other information

If you would like to find out about the current severe weather warnings, you will find comprehensive data on various types of severe weather such as storms, heavy rain, thunderstorms and even freezing rain on the pages mentioned. The severe weather center offers two types of warnings: advance warnings and acute warnings, with the first ones being able to be declared up to 48 hours in advance. Using these warning levels - from yellow for advance warnings to purple for extreme storms - people can better prepare for upcoming weather events.

The recent thunderstorms that hit Germany in the last few weeks in particular have once again underlined how important it is to stay informed about the weather situation. There have been numerous reports of flood damage and other weather-related incidents in recent months. When lightning strikes and the rain falls so heavily, certain risks are to be expected. The wind also plays a role - if wind gusts exceed 50 km/h, a warning is issued for many regions, which can also affect the affected residents. The DWD and other meteorologists are ready to closely monitor developments.

The following applies to all Cologne residents and the people in the surrounding area: Pay close attention to the current weather warnings, stay informed and protect yourself and others from the storms that will come our way this weekend. A good hand when it comes to the weather can't hurt!
