Countdown to the Hanseatic and Local History Festival: Celebrate with us in Salzwedel!
A very big festival will be celebrated in Salzwedel in just a few days: On Thursday, June 26, 2025, the local and Hanseatic festival begins with a varied opening program. The district music schools kick off the musical dance with concerts and a brass serenade also creates a festive atmosphere in the Hanseatic city. Fans of live music can look forward to the entertainment with artists such as 410 Youngins and Jan Böhme from 9 p.m., while the Altmarkkreis music school offers a musical walk with young talents from the Stendal district from 5:30 p.m. The brass serenade, entertainingly led by cantor Roland J. Dyck, will take place at 7 p.m. in St. Mary's Church.
The construction of the historic Hanseatic market is progressing quickly. This opens on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 2 p.m. and will open its doors in front of the town hall and at the monks' church. Traditionally conscious visitors can look forward to traders, jugglers and numerous stalls that allow you to immerse yourself in the medieval flair. The official opening of both festivals will also take place on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Salzwedel Burggarten.

A feast for all senses
The Hanseatic Festival, which this year celebrates 761 years of membership in the Hanseatic League, focuses on the city's historical roots. Salzwedel was already a central trading location in 1263 and the medieval market will impressively demonstrate this. In addition to the numerous stands, there will also be a fire show, which will provide a special experience on both evenings.
The anticipation of the local and Hanseatic festival is in full swing, and the coming days promise unforgettable experiences in the historical backdrop of Salzwedel. Whether young or old – there is something for everyone here! The Volksstimme also recognized this, praising the festival as a cultural highlight in the event calendar and pointing out the upcoming attractions.
