District day Salzwedel: Household planning approved in the urgent procedure!
Altmarkkreis Salzwedel, Deutschland - On June 25, 2025, the district council of the Altmark district of Salzwedel took an important step towards a stable financial future. In a very special session, the district budget was unanimously adopted after it had to be withdrawn due to a "considerable formal error". The missing detailed job plans in the original proposed resolution had led to a rejection by the state administrative office. But District Administrator Steve Kanitz (SPD) emphasized the urgency of an approved budget for upcoming investments and joined the ranks of the district council to quickly get a solution. According to AZ Online the budget was finally approved in the required form.
To clarify the situation, the district council chose the unusual step to take out all household resolutions. District chairman Michael Ziche found that the desired reduction in reserves with the new household could not be achieved. There is still no uncertainty about the exact amount of the reserves of the Altmark district. However, it should be noted that the main part of the budget was checked by the state administration office without complaints and the district continues to be efficient.
investments in view
At the same time, the circular levy remains on the originally decided height. Planned investments for 2024, which were already set in the previous budget, include a total of 9.9 million euros. This includes, for example, the construction of a dormitory with 1.5 million euros and 6.25 million euros for additional room cells at the community school Lessing. Smaller projects, such as the modernization of the fire service center with 800,000 euros, are also planned. In addition, 400,000 euros are planned for investments in renewable energies, such as a PV system on the roof of the district administration, reports the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel.
Financial planning also provides for a removal of 7.5 million euros from the reserve in addition to the investments in order to compensate for the earnings budget. The approval for the budget statute 2024 was granted on January 11, 2024, so that the provisional budgetary management ends by the end of January 2024.
A look into the future
With a solid planning and the prospect of early permits from Halle, the Altmarkkreis is motivated to take the necessary steps for a successful future. District Administrator Steve Kanitz is at the top of these efforts and does everything possible to correct the financial switches. How it will continue could be clearer in the coming week if there is a final okay from the State Administration Office in Halle.
Meanwhile, the citizens can look forward to a still transparent and targeted housekeeping. It remains exciting how these financial measures will not only improve the infrastructure, but also the quality of life in the Altmark district.
