On the night of Thursday, October 3, 2023, the city of Salzwedel was shaken by a dramatic incident: a Mercedes was ablaze. The fire department was called to “Am Stern” street around 11:25 p.m., where the engine compartment of the vehicle was already fully ablaze when the emergency services arrived. A neighboring VW also suffered damage due to the intense heat. As Tixio reports, seven firefighters were finally able to control and extinguish the fire. However, this resulted in damage amounting to a four-digit amount.
The situation at the scene of the fire was tense and the criminal police reacted quickly. According to initial investigations, it is assumed that it was arson, a suspicion that is not expressed lightly. The fire scene was seized for a full investigation. The investigators are therefore asking the public for help: Witnesses or people who made suspicious observations during the time of the incident are asked to contact the Salzwedel police on 03901/8480.
