Record number of naturalizations: Halle leads with Syrian citoyens!
In 2024, the number of naturalizations in Saxony-Anhalt rose sharply: a total of 2,813 foreign people received German citizenship, reports Dubist Hall. This corresponds to an increase of 34.3% or 718 people compared to the previous year. The gender distribution shows a slight dominance of male naturalizations: 1,572 men (55.9%) compared to 1,241 women (44.1%).
A particularly striking detail is the origin of the new citizens. The Syrians make up the largest group with 1,468 people, followed by 162 Ukrainians, 134 Russians and 101 Afghans. Destatis emphasizes that these figures reflect the wide range of immigrants. What is noteworthy, however, is that the number of Syrian naturalizations only increased by 4.5%, which seems modest compared to the previous year. In 2023, 1,405 Syrians were naturalized, an increase of 64.9% compared to 2022.
Age and application basis of naturalized persons
The age distribution among those who have been naturalized is just as interesting: almost a third of the applications (29.2%) concern people under the age of 18. In the age group between 18 and 35 years it is at least 33.9%. Regarding the legal basis for naturalizations, it should be noted that 50.1% of naturalizations take place in accordance with Section 10 Paragraph 1 of the Nationality Act (StAG), which requires a period of residence of five years. In addition, 30.6% were co-naturalized by spouses and minor children, which shows how important family reunification is in this process.

In the districts, however, the numbers are quite modest with 63 naturalizations in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel and 198 in the Burgenlandkreis. The high increases are particularly noticeable in the Harz district, which recorded an increase of 438.1%, and in the Börde district with +422.2%.
